SAFARI AT KAUDULLA NATIONAL PARK

This is one of the most exciting experiences that must not be missed while in Sri Lanka. This national park is situated in Dambulla. Two hours open Jeep safari will pass through the narrow dusty track where you will encounter various birds and animal like Owls, Monkeys, deer etc. All on a sudden you will emerge in to an open space heading straight to the herd of hundreds of wild elephants relaxing near the edge of a huge lake. This is the best place to see wild elephants in their natural habitat. Enjoy the sight of mammals doing their business; calves follow their mothers and males fighting. It was truly an immersive wildlife experience and one of the best things to do in Sri Lanka.

HIKE AT LITTLE ADAMS PEAK

If you have interests in Hiking Sri Lanka is the country where you have multiple options. Ella hiking is one of them. If you want to enjoy some of the best views without needing to hike for hours, Little Adam’s Peak is the perfect trek, especially for an unforgettable sunset experience. The trail begins with a moderate incline as it winds through tea plantations. Although the maximum height right from the sea level is 1141m, you don’t need to hike so much as you starts from the elevation of few hundred meters. The trail is marked the whole way with well-maintained paths and stairs to the first set of viewpoints. There are multiple platforms, rocks, and viewpoints perfect for photos once you hit the top of Little Adam’s Peak. At the top of Little Adam’s Peak with no one else around, you will feel like ruling the world. The 360 degree view from the top is just incredible.  

KANDY TO ELLA TRAIN JOURNEY

The Kandy to Ella train journey is said to be one of the most scenic, epic train journeys in not only just Sri Lanka but the world.  You can do one way journey or both ways i.e. from Kandy to Ella and in reverse from Ella to Kandy. There is another option to take a break between two journeys and do tea plantations visit at Ella. This will be quite relaxing.  During the Kandy to Ella train journey, you can walk around the carriages, go to the toilet, visit the food stand or purchase some snacks from vendors who wander about. The train will make the most scenic and romantic journey as it passes through beautiful tea plantations, cruised through villages and crossed bridges.  The scenery keeps on changing as when you are looking out at the entire stretch of green tea plantation next minutes you will in the middle of woodland forest.  Riding this train was definitely one of the favorite things to do in Sri Lanka.

TREK THROUGH A TEA PLANTATION IN NUWARA ELIYA

Trekking up and down the steep mountains home amongst the famous Lipton Tea and other highly lauded tea estates is an amazing experience.  The tea plants are scattered with no particular pattern although they are often layered creating a beautiful linear design on the side of the mountains. Sri Lankan tea and called Ceylon tea has created a worldwide market and generates good income for the country. Its unique taste and aromatic nature make it known all over the world. Visiting tea museum is the best thing you would do in tea trail.  It has various Tea tasting tours where you can try different flavours like cinnamon, apple tea etc. You also get to know the whole tea making process which is full of fun and information.

EXPLORE THE MARKET

Local market visit is important aspects of tourism to understand the local life in Indian subcontinent. There are plenty of markets all over Sri Lanka. All of which will be great to explore. In the market you can try some fruits, taste some local dishes and of course meet the local vendors. The shopkeepers are very welcoming and you can request for photographs with them.

CLIMB SIGRIYA ROCK

Sigiriya Rock also called Sigria Lion Rock is referred to as the eighth wonder of the world. It is a truly astonishing feat of architecture. The fortress is witness to many wars and invasions, making this a very historic site. It’s one of the most popular tourist things to do in Sri Lanka. The top of the rock is 370 meters above sea-level and 200 meters higher than the jungle below it.  Once reach at the top of the rock you will be surprised to see abandoned palaces, ponds, waterways, canals, stairs and walls. This is a full day activity as you need to climb all the way to the top to have amazing view of sunset.
