TRADITIONAL MASK DANCE AND CULTURAL SHOW

All the Bhutanese art, dance, drama and music have its origin in Buddhist religion and hence these have great impact on the life of the people. Music is an integral part of Bhutanese culture and plays a leading role in transmitting social values and ethics. The traditional Bhutanese music includes a range of performance from folk to religious song and music. Dances are performed wearing ornate costume and mask and each aspect of dance has its own meaning and values. There are 10-12 performers who perform sequence of dance from welcome song to farewell dance.  

TSHEWANG CEREMONY (BUTTER LAMP OFFERING CEREMONY) :

This ceremony is basically for peace, prosperity and happiness in the society. The special prayer held at monastery by the team of monks who lit the lamps. The guests and other visitors are required to lit the butter lamps later on.  Tshewang ceremony can be organized anywhere in the monastery. The ceremony fills the clients with spiritual feelings.

ARCHERY – THE NATIONAL SPORT

Archery is not only the national sport of Bhutan and an integral part of all the special gatherings and festivals. Tournaments are organized on different occasions and each team has noisy crowd of supporters who encourage their own team.  Archery competition are among the most picturesque and colourful events in Bhutan. Annual archery tournaments held on Losar (Bhutanese New Year) and smaller competitions keep on organizing even during the weekend. The archery session can be organized for the tourist at a designated place or in the open ground for the tourists.

BHUTANESE DRESS WEARING SESSION

This is an interesting even organized for the tourists.  The national dress of Bhutan is one of the most distinctive and visible aspects of Bhutan. Whereas men wear Gho, a long robe similar to Tibetan Chhuba that is raised till knee, women wear ankle length robe called Kira. Bhutanese textile is made of fine hand woven fabric with colourful distinctive pattern.  Photograph of tourist in Bhutanese attire is must.    

VILLAGE TOUR AND BUTTER TEA MAKING

Visit Richengang village in Punakha is the most authentic way to experience village life. This is one of the oldest village in Bhutan with traditional architecture and delightful local people in Punakha valley where an ancient way of life has remained unchanged for generation and most of the villagers still work as stone manson and original craftsman of dzongs ( fort cum monastery) and Ihakhang (temples). Walk into a farmer’s or local stonemason’s house of the village and peep into the daily lifestyle of the villagers. You can also interact with the villagers.  You will have an opportunity to make Suja (traditionally prepared salted butter tea) at the farm house or in the villager’s house. 

TRADITIONAL BHUTENESE HOT STONE BATH

Traditional Bhutanese hot stone bath known as Dotsho in local language is practicised for centuries as a medical soak. Many Bhutanese believes that bath helps in curing joint pain and other medical problem. River stones are heated and then put in the water to heat it. Also medicinal herbs are added before it is ready to soak. This is a common activity and can be organized in any hotel.

TRY SPECIAL COOKING SESSION

This is special cooking session held at local restaurant where a team of chef instructs how Bhutanese delicacies are prepared. Guests can try their culinary skill and involve in the making local recipes. Traditional Bhutanese cuisine is heavily lashed with red chilies and they are hot. Tasty and fiery Emma Datsy which also called the national food of Bhutan is made with Chilies and local Bhutanese cheese. Guests can have fun participating in the cooking session.  

VISIT TO THIMPU’S LOCAL MARKET

Visit to this weekend local market in Thimpu is a must do experience. The famous Thimpu Local market was built in year 2008 where most of the Thimpu population and many from the down town valley converge on the bustling market held down by the river. A wide range of food stuff and art and craft items are sold here. A visit to the market provides great photo opportunity as well as chance to mingle with local people and perhaps buy some souvenirs. This market is organized on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and hence the guest staying in Thimpu on these days can visit.   

MEETING AND INTERACTION WITH MONKS

If you are interested to interact with the Buddhist monk, a meeting can be organized in the evening a meeting over tea / coffee. Monks are invited from local monastery and the convenient place would be the hotels where the guests are staying.  

VISIT TO SWISS FARM

Swiss farm is a development project established by a Swiss national,  Mr. Fritz Maurer. He was one of the first Swiss who started working in Bhutan. His work is further carried further by his son. The Swiss project includes brewing, farming machinery and fuel efficient, smokeless wood stoves to the valley and also in his first tourist guest house. The milk from large jersey cattle is used in Bhutan’s only commercial Cheese factory. Bhutan’s only native beer, Red Panda is brewed here.

RIVER RAFTING AT PHO CHU AND MO CHU RIVER

Both Mo Chu and Pho chu rivers are source of white water rafting in Bhutan. Mo Chu river originates from the mountainous hill of Northern Bhutan and Pho Chu river is fed by glacier in upper Punakha glacial valley. They offer tremendous rafting opportunity. Pho Chu river has 16 kms course and Mo Chu river has 10 kms before they merged near Punakha Dzong, where the main river is called Puna Tsang Chu. This offers even more exciting and stimulating experience.  During the rafting you journey through the most scenic and seclude miles featuring incredibly blue water breath taking alpine scenery & sighting world’s rarest birds.
